Professional Scottish harpist, clarsach player and singer

Born and brought up on the Isle of Skye surrounded by Gaelic song, music and culture, Steaph's music is largely influenced by her Gaelic roots as well as her extensive classical training. This mix of the traditional and the classical has been fused with playing modern, contemporary music giving her music a distinctive tone, sound and voice. Steaph graduated with a first class honours degree on the pedal harp from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2017. Upon graduating she studied the harp in Brest, Brittany for a year. Whilst at the Royal Northern College of Music Steaph established a flute and harp duo called ‘Duo Reul’ who were finalists in the British Harp Chamber Music Competition in 2015 and also performed in many venues including at the Isle of Skye Festival, Didsbury Coffee Concert Series, and the Didsbury and Chorlton Arts Festivals. She has also been featured playing live on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ playing Jeffery Mumford’s ‘Echoes From Within Brightening Fabric’ for Harp and Vibraphone. As an orchestral musician she has had the pleasure of performing in some of the country's most notable venues including The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, The Usher Hall, The Bridgewater Hall (Manchester) and a personal highlight was performing as the prinicpal harpist of NYOS in the BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall. In 2018 Steaph won the prestigious Gaelic Traditional Singing Gold Medal at the Royal National Mod. Since then she has gone on to sing at Dover House in London, at Am Bothan in Edinburgh and representing Scotland at the International Pan Celtic Festival in Ireland. She was the winner of the 2019 International Pan Celtic Festival traditional harp competition.

What to expect

The harp is an elegant and beautiful addition to any special occasion and is a popular choice for weddings, functions and drinks receptions. Steaph will provide you with a personalised experience and guide you throughout the process. There is a range of options available including performing a range of genres on the pedal harp or on the lever harp. Her repertoire list is extensive, covering modern pop and film music, celtic music and classical music. Steaph is always happy to take your requests.

Q: How long does setup take? A: Approximately 30 minutes to set up.
Q: What are your space and power requirements? A: Steaph can perform on either the pedal harp (Height: 73 1/2" (187 cm) | Width: 38 3/4" (98 cm)) or on the lever harp (Height: 46” approx. | Width: 25” approx.) which is smaller and lighter so can be transported to more unusual locations. She is able to perform indoors and outdoors (weather permitting).
Q: Do you take requests? A: If a song isn't included in Steaph's repertoire list there may still be a chance she already knows it. If there is a special request you'd like her to learn she is happy to do this for you. She will need plenty of advance notice in this case.
