Skamungas play ska and reggae taking you from its Jamaican/Trojan roots up through the Madness/Specials era, all designed to fill the dance floor.

Skamungas are a high energy ska and reggae dance party band. We consist of drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, trombone, saxophone, lead vocals and up to three part backing vocals. We come complete with our own PA , backline and lights, but happy to use a venue's sound and lights. All members of the band are very experience, professional standard musicians and are very reliable, personable and friendly people to work with.

What to expect

Expect a mix of reggae and ska styles from early Trojan and Jamaican roots such as Toots and The Maytals and Desmond Dekker, through to the second wave ska of Madness, The Specials, Bad Manners and The Selecter up to modern day ska bands such as Reel Big Fish and Tokyo Ska Paradise. We also take a few non-ska songs and re-work them with a ska beat...for example our renditions of These Boots Were Made For Walking and Brown Eyed Girl are real winners!!

Brief Bio

Ska and reggae are currently immensely popular genres of music and demand for such bands is as high as ever. As a result of this, Skamungas was created, pulling together some very talented musicians from across the Home Counties to perform popular ska and reggae songs with a slightly different slant. As well as performing the wonderful songs of 80s bands such as Madness and The Specials, Skamungas also take you on a musical jaunt through the history of ska and reggae, from 60s Caribbean artists such as Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, Max Romeo and Jimmy Cliff, through the 70s with Dave and Ansell Collins and 80s bands such as The Selecter, Madness, The Specials, Bad Manners, to the 90s and Reel Big Fish and more recently, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra and Paolo Nutini. Further, the band is taking classic pop and rock songs and feeding them through the Skamungas machine to be performed as though they were always intended as ska/reggae numbers. Our ska rendition of “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison is a particular favourite as a well as “These Boots Were Made for Walking”, yes, the Nancy Sinatra song! The band was pulled together in the early months of 2017, had its inaugural gig in April of that year, headlined Astonbury 2017, our first festival, has since headlined Live In The Park 2018 in Aylesbury in front of 10,000+ people and was selected from amongst hundreds of bands to play PennFest July 2018 on the bill with the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Feeder and The Manic Street Preachers. We have been invited back to headline Astonbury in the Summer. With a terrific brass section consisting of trombone and tenor sax, driving drums and bass, rhythmic guitar and keyboards, harmonized backing vocals and a lead vocalist to die for, the band is set to achieve great things and this has been underlined by the significantly large number of booking enquiries we are receiving from an ever wider area.

FAQ

Q: How long does setup take? A: We like to allow 2 hours to set up the PA, instruments and a thorough sound check
Q: What are your space and power requirements? A: Minimum 2 mains outlets. Stage area 5m x 3m, although if the stage is not too high we can set the lead vocalist, sax and trombone at floor level in front of the stage.
Q: Do you take requests? A: Songs need careful preparation and rehearsal. If a specific ska song is required that we don't already do, we would be happy to consider a request with sufficient time (at least 3 weeks) to work the song into our set.
